Ingredients
Scale: 1x | 2x | 3x
  • 1 lb ground beef

  • 1 small onion, diced

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup

  • ½ cup sour cream

  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese, divided

  • 1 bag (32 oz) frozen tater tots

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • Optional seasonings: garlic powder, paprika, or your favorite spices

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven
Set the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a casserole dish.
  2. Cook the beef mixture
In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef. Add the diced onion and cook until softened.
Season with salt, pepper, and any optional spices such as garlic powder or paprika. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the creamy sauce
Stir in the cream of mushroom soup and sour cream. Mix until well combined and heated through, about 2–3 minutes.
  4. Assemble the casserole
Spread the beef mixture evenly in the prepared casserole dish.
Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  5. Top with tater tots
Arrange the frozen tater tots in a single, even layer on top of the cheese.
  6. Bake
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the tater tots are golden brown and crispy.
  7. Add final cheese layer
Remove from the oven and sprinkle with the remaining 1 cup of cheddar cheese.
Return to the oven for 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Serve
Allow the casserole to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
