Juicy Baked Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs RecipeOn busy evenings when I want something comforting but don’t feel like cooking a complicated meal, I turn to these baked honey garlic chicken thighs.

There’s something deeply satisfying about searing the chicken, letting the garlic sizzle in butter, and finishing everything in the oven while the kitchen fills with a warm, sweet-savory aroma.

By the time the chicken comes out—sticky with honey and tender all the way through—it feels like a small reward at the end of the day.

Simple ingredients, one pan, and a dinner that’s cozy, reliable, and always worth making again.

For the Honey Garlic Chicken

  • Chicken Thighs – Boneless chicken thighs stay extra juicy and tender when baked. You can use bone-in thighs if you prefer, just allow a little extra cooking time.
  • Salt and Black Pepper – Simple seasoning that brings out the natural flavor of the chicken before it’s coated in sauce.
  • Unsalted Butter – Adds richness and helps create a silky base for the honey garlic sauce without overpowering it.
  • Garlic – Freshly minced garlic is key here. It gives the sauce its bold, savory flavor as it gently cooks in the butter.
  • Honey – This is what gives the dish its signature sticky sweetness and helps the sauce caramelize beautifully in the oven.
  • Dried Oregano – Adds a subtle earthy note that balances the sweetness of the honey.
  • Dried Thyme – Brings a mild herbal flavor that pairs well with garlic and butter.
  • Dried Basil – Adds a light, aromatic finish to round out the sauce.
  • Fresh Parsley – Sprinkled on at the end for a pop of color and a touch of freshness.

Ingredients

  • 5–6 boneless chicken thighs
(If using bone-in thighs, increase the cooking time as needed)
  • Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
  • 5 cloves garlic, finely chopped or minced
  • 5 tablespoons honey
  • ½ teaspoon dried oregano
  • ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon dried basil
  • Fresh parsley, finely chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Rinse the chicken thighs and pat them completely dry. Season both sides with salt and black pepper according to your preference.
  2. Sear the chicken. Place an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat and melt 2 tablespoons of the butter. Add the chicken thighs and cook until nicely browned, about 2–3 minutes per side. Transfer the chicken to a plate, cover, and set aside.
  3. Prepare the sauce. In the same skillet, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter. Add the minced garlic and cook, stirring constantly, until fragrant—about 1 minute. Remove the skillet from the heat and mix in the honey, oregano, thyme, and basil until the sauce is smooth.
  4. Combine and coat. Return the chicken thighs to the skillet and turn them so each piece is evenly coated with the honey garlic sauce.
  5. Bake. Transfer the skillet to the oven and bake until the chicken is fully cooked and no longer pink inside, about 20–25 minutes. Flip the chicken once halfway through baking. The internal temperature should reach 165°F (74°C).
  6. Finish and serve. Sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving. Enjoy hot.

Juicy Baked Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs Recipe

  1. Can I use bone-in chicken thighs instead of boneless?
Yes! Bone-in thighs work perfectly. Just bake a few minutes longer until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C). The meat will stay juicy and flavorful.
  2. How do I make sure the garlic doesn’t burn?
Cook the garlic over medium heat until fragrant, about 1 minute. If your pan is very hot, lower the heat first. Burnt garlic can taste bitter, so gentle cooking is key.
  3. My honey garlic sauce seems too thin. How can I thicken it?
You can simmer the sauce on the stovetop for a few minutes to reduce it. For a faster fix, mix a small amount of cornstarch with water and stir it in — the sauce will thicken beautifully.
  4. Can I prep this recipe ahead of time?
Absolutely! You can season and sear the chicken a day ahead, then store it in the fridge. When ready, pour the sauce over the chicken and bake as directed.
  5. What sides go well with this dish?
This chicken pairs wonderfully with mashed potatoes, rice, steamed vegetables, or a crisp salad — anything that soaks up that sticky honey garlic sauce.
