Ingredients
  • 4 (6-ounce) salmon filets
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • Olive oil spray
Instructions
  1. Prepare the fish.
    Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Use a paper towel to gently blot excess moisture from each salmon filet.
  2. Add mustard.
    Spread one teaspoon of Dijon mustard over the top of each piece, creating a thin, even coat.
  3. Season well.
    Dust the filets with paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. A light spray of olive oil over the surface will help everything stay moist as it cooks.
  4. Air fry.
    Place two filets in the air fryer basket and cook for 8–10 minutes, or until the salmon easily flakes when tested with a fork. Repeat with the remaining filets.

1. Do I really need to preheat the air fryer?

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: it only takes a couple of minutes and it helps the salmon get that lovely crisp-edged finish. No preheating = good salmon. Preheating = great salmon.

2. Skin on or skin off?

Either works!
If the skin is on, pop it in skin-side down and the air fryer does the rest. Skinless fillets cook just as well — no need to change anything. Use whatever you’ve already got.

3. What if my salmon fillets are different thicknesses?

Totally normal. Just check them a bit earlier. Thin pieces cook faster, thicker ones need a couple more minutes. When it flakes easily with a fork, you’re golden.

4. Can I cook salmon from frozen?

You can, but thawed salmon gives you a better texture and the seasoning sticks properly. If you do use frozen, just add extra cook time and check that the center is fully done.

5. How do I know when the salmon is perfectly cooked?

When it flakes with a fork — no wrestling required.
Officially, you’re aiming for an internal temp of about 145°F / 63°C, but pull it just before that if you prefer it extra tender. It keeps cooking for a minute or two after coming out anyway.
